Due to an illness/ disability in our family, despite having health insurance, we still owe thousands in medical bills. Those that would not work with us turned them into collection. They now show on our credit report. Despite being insured for both our auto insurance and our home insurance for 20+ year with the same insurance company, we got a notice saying our auto insurance had gone up hundreds of dollars per year based on a credit report they obtained. We have never had an accident, ticket, etc. and the amount automatically comes out of our checking each month. Does anyone know if there is a temporary car insurance you can get, so you only have to pay for it when you are driving the car. My car insurance is $150/month for plpd(partial), it is the cheapest there is, and my car is only worth around $2000. I only drive my car once a month for a 70 mile round trip. Do you have to have full coverage insurance on a new car?

We are going to try to get our first new car ever,and not really sure of the whole insurance process..We do keep liability insurance on our 2 cars we have now,but that alone about kills us,we pay $105 a month for 2 vehicles and 2 22 year old drivers..Everyone says its our age that causes us to have high insurance.Anyway, are we going to be required to have our own full coverage insurance on a new car if we get one? Or will the dealership help us with it or factor it in the payment? Because I don't think we could afford full coverage if its much higher..I priced it when I was 18 on a mustang and it was like $300 a month...I know crazy!!

Should I show the car repairman the insurance estimate?

I was in a wreck that the insurance company of the other driver agreed to pay for. They made an estimate and said they will put a check in the mail. They said that if it costs more than the estimate, then they will take care of that also as long as I show the estimate to the repairman. That seems straightforward... and on the other hand: With other car issues, auto shops have seemed to be willing to underbid each other. I wouldn't mind getting it fixed for less than the check that I'm going to receive. Should I try to get estimates that are independent of the insurance company's estimate to see if I can save money? If I then go with a shop that says they can do it for cheaper, can I trust that they won't say it will be more later?
